Neurology/Neurosurgery

Clinical Rotations

Residents are assured 75 weeks of training under the direct supervision of a board certified neurologist. 50% of the residents clinical rotations will involve medical neurology and 50% of the rotations will involve medical and surgical neurology to insure all areas of clinical proficiency are attained. Additional rotations through general medicine, diagnostic imaging, and pathology under supervision of board-certified specialists in each area are available. The location of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in a large metropolitan area provides a rich variety of case material as well as a referral base that includes Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Michigan. Case management is carried out with the guidance and collaboration of experienced faculty who are recognized experts in their respective fields. Support facilities include a fully equipped electrodiagnostic laboratory, neurosurgical suites, access to a state-of-the art 1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging system, in-house computed tomography scanner, and an in-house linear accelerator. We are currently awaiting the installation of a 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging system for use by the veterinary hospital.
