Canine Theriogenology (Reproduction) Conference

January 24, 2004

This conference was for those owners, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and breeders interested in improving their knowledge in canine breeding. In addition, information regarding ovulation timing, artificial insemination, vaccination protocols, pregnancy testing, progesterone testing, vaginal cultures and cytology, male sterilization without surgery, etc. was presented.

Highlights

Dr. Horteloup

Above: Dr. Horteloup, resident in the Theriogenology Area at Ohio State, presented material on the anatomy and physiology of the bitch's and stud's reproductive tract.

Dr. Neer

Above: Dr. Charles Neer, Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, presented the latest information on vaccines and vaccination programs to be used by breeders.

Dr. Polley of Addison Laboratories presented information on the use of Neutersol in the canine male.

Testicular injection

Above: A demonstration of the testicular injection of Neutersol was presented.

Ultrasonic exam

Above: Dr. Threlfall demonstrated ultrasonographic examination of the pregnant bitch, semen collection, artificial insemination, vaginal cytology, and vaginal cultures.
      
Participants were able to perform pregnancy tests and progesterone concentration determinations using immunoassays on serum. It also permitted additional time for participants to ask additional questions.

Dr.Threlfall, Theriogenologist and Head of the Theriogenology Area, presented material on collection techniques, semen examination, and problems causing subfertility in bitches and studs.
