Description

An externship in small animal medicine and surgery at Southwest Veterinary Specialty Center will provide students with exposure to emergency and critical care medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, surgery, oncology, dermatology, dentistry, and ophthalmology. Our facility includes the following equipment; ultrasound, endoscopy, cobalt radiation unit, radiation treatment planner, technetium scanner, biomedical cabinets, laboratory microscope, I-state blood analyzer, snyder oxygen case, CO2 laser, operating microscope (teaching), cryosurgical unit, phacoemulsifier, indirect ophthalmoscope, electroretinograph, tonometers, slit-lamps, etc.

Responsibilities

An externship in small animal medicine and surgery at Southwest Veterinary Specialty Center will provide students with exposure to emergency and critical care medicine, internal medicine, cardiology, surgery, oncology, dermatology, dentistry, and ophthalmology.  The student can expect to see a varied amount of cases depending on the specialty type they work in.

 

Student Supervision

The student will have 8 – 10 hrs of access to the veterinarian each day.
