The autoMACS from Miltenyi Biotec is an automated bench-top magnetic cell sorter. It is capable of sorting up to 10 million cells per second from samples of up to 4x10 9 total cells. The autoMACS is designed for gentle and ultra high speed positive selection as well as depletion. It is compatible with almost any direct and indirect MACS reagents for the isolation of virtually any cell type. Cells that can be easily and efficiently isolated by using the autoMACS include human, rat, and mouse cells or cells from any other species, for example CD34 + progenitor cells, CD3 +, CD4 +, CD8 +, CD14 +, CD15 +, CD56 + cells from human whole blood, cytokine-secreting cells, dendritic cells, and disseminated tumor cells.

The autoMACS is completely compatible with flow cytometry. Fluorescent and magnetic labeling of cells can be performed simultaneously. After autoMACS sorting, cells are immediately ready for flow cytometric analysis.

The autoMACS can easily be used for magnetic pre-sorting of cells before further flow cytometric sorting. MACS MicroBeads, for example Anti-FITC or Anti-PE MicroBeads, are added to the FITC or PE stained cells. Then the cells are sorted on the autoMACS according to their magnetic labeling. The positive and negative fractions are collected in sample tubes for convenient flow sorter processing. The precise analysis and quantification even of rare cells is now easy with the autoMACS pre-sorting capability.
