i-Cyt Reflection

The i-Cyt Reflection cell sorter and analyzer provides modern advances with proven technology. This is the first cell sorter that allows for optical flexibility of up to 48 PMTs and 256 parameters, maximum performance potential with up to four HAPS (Highly Automated Parallel Sorters) in one unit that can run in unison or individually, remote monitoring capabilities, BSL-2 safety features and sharing of resources to help with economical constraints (sharing of lasers, PMTs, and computers).

Currently our instrument features a dual HAPS system (two sorters). The instrument is equipped with a shared 500mW, 488nm laser that can detect colors at 525/40, 575/40, 645/20, 670/30 and two 30mw-635nm lasers that can detect colors at 720/50 and 780/60. Each module is also equipped with a FSC and BSC PMT as well. Additional colors can be accomodated through the use of interchangeable filters that are featured on this instrument, however pre-consultaion with the operator is required. This instrument utilizes WinList software for analysis and data acquisition.

The Reflection Cell Sorter is able to sort from a microcentrifuge tube or a 12 X 75mm falcon tube into, multiple formats including, up to four microfuge tubes, four 12 X 75mm tubes, two 15mL conical tubes, or one 50mL conical tube. This is instrument is equipped with a plate sorter that can accomodate 6-396 well formats.

Requirement for Access to the Reflection

This instrument is operator-run only. Interested users must schedule an appointment with the operator to discuss experimental design and expected outcomes. Appointment scheduling is done on a first come first serve basis and 24 hours notice for scheduling and cancellation is required.

Sample Submission Procedures:

  • Operating hours are Monday - Friday between 9am - 5:00pm. Laboratories should arrange their experiments to accommodate these hours.
  • Laboratories wanting to make an appointment for Flow Cytometry samples to be run should first fill out a Flow Cytometry Sample Sheet Adobe PDF File to be hand delivered to room 101A Goss Laboratories. Contact information supplied by the researcher on this form will then be used to establish final appointment dates and times. Appointments will be scheduled without bias, however, all efforts will be made to arrange times that work with the research needs of the laboratory.
  • Walk-in samples will be accepted, but a Flow Cytometry Sample Sheet must still be filled in completely and turned in with the samples. Walk-in samples will be scheduled solely by the operator, and will be analyzed with second priority to appointment samples. Samples submitted on a walk in basis must be fixed.
  • Guidelines for acceptable sample preparation and submission can be found on the Flow Cytometry - Things to Remember Sheet Adobe PDF File, and should be referred to before sample submission.
  • Consultation with the operator on experimental design or sample processing should be arranged by appointment. SOPs for standard sample processing will be available at the website. Consultation for routine procedures, not exceeding 1-2 hours, will normally be at no additional cost. Extended consultation will be charged at a rate of $35.00 per hour.
  • A fee will be assesed if proper cancellation notice is not given.
