Dear Alumnus,
The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine is one of the finest veterinary colleges in the country. This stature makes it easy to proudly proclaim, "I am a Buckeye." Times are changing and we must continue to receive support from friends and alumni such as you to maintain the strength and quality of all of our programs. Last year, 1800 alumni became members of the Veterinary Medicine Alumni Society and we must increase our membership numbers. This year our goal is to have our membership exceed 2000. So, if you traditionally join our society, we thank you and welcome you back again this year. If you have not yet joined, please consider making 2009 the year to begin a new tradition of support for your alma mater.
Our Alumni Society's mission is to be, "Dedicated to connecting alumni to advance the success of the college and its students." It is time to focus on the "connecting" part of this statement. The better we connect alumni to each other and to the college the stronger we will become and the better we will be able to serve the college and its students.
Therefore, the society has plans and goals of creating a web site that better enables you to find and communicate with fellow alumni and current students. We live in a world where networking is crucial. We also have made it a goal to increase the number of events that bring alumni together each year. As always, plans are underway for this year's Alumni Reunion Weekend, September 11-13, 2009, which happens to showcase a battle between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the USC Trojans. The annual golf outing was held in June and was a tremendous success, raising $8,000 for veterinary student scholarships. This year will also be highlighted by a newer tradition, the third annual veterinary road trip to an away football game. This year we have two destinations: Cleveland, Ohio for the Toledo game, and West Lafayette, Indiana for the Purdue game. We are hoping to add a fourth event, such as a trip to the Columbus Zoo or another Buckeye athletic or cultural event.
Our alumni funding will continue to support student scholarships, events such as Freshmen Orientation, the White Coat Ceremony, and the Oath and Hooding ceremony, and for projects that improve the college's infrastructure.
Please become a member of the Alumni Society by sending in your dues with the enclosed form. Only through your generosity will we meet our goals and grow stronger so we can better support the College of Veterinary Medicine and students.
Go Bucks,
Bradley W. Carmichael, DVM ‘00
