Transfusion Information

This section is designed for use by veterinarians as well as others interested in learning about transfusion medicine for educational purposes. We encourage owners of past, current and prospective blood donors to acquaint themselves with the components that are generated from their pet's generous contribution.

Along with each component and its description, you can access detailed instructions for the indications and safe utilization of that particular component. As one could anticipate, special handling or storage is often required with each product.

Consultative services

The veterinarians at The Ohio State University Animal Blood Bank—Dr. Cristina Iazbik, managing director, and Dr. Guillermo Couto, director of Clinical Hematology/Oncology and the Animal Blood Bank--are available for consultation services when unusual cases or those requiring specialized expertise present to the general practitioner. This service is free of charge. Please contact us for the recommended contact procedures for both non-critical and emergency cases. The well-being of your patient requiring treatment is our first concern.
