Omega Tau Sigma Fraternity (OTS)

A Brief History

Omega Tau Sigma, also known as OTS or "Oats", is a professional Veterinary Fraternity. It was founded in 1906 at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Gamma Chapter here was founded in 1911. With over 90 active members, the Gamma chapter of OTS is currently the largest and most established Veterinary Fraternity at Ohio State. We are also fortunate enough to own a beautiful restored farmhouse, located at 4673 Kenny Road, the home of countless social events and meetings, as well as 8 resident veterinary students. In addition to the numerous active student members, there exists a great network with Oatie alums who are practicing veterinarians today and are still very active in fraternity activities.

Our Purpose

To encourage and foster the development of well-rounded, ethical veterinarians and, through them, to create a better profession on the basis of friendship, cooperation, and respect of our peers. To impart to our members a desire to serve faithfully and zealously the varied needs of the animal kingdom. To instill a recognition of the rewards and importance of community service. To inspire our members with the awareness that the knowledge of a job well done and the regard of clientele and colleagues far surpass financial gain. To give aspiring young veterinarians a chance to survey analytically the veterinary profession so that they can be sure that their best talents will be used as veterinarians. To instill the principles of honesty, morality, resourcefulness, and compassion in all its members, and to give these new veterinarians a chance to learn the much-valued trait of working with a group for the mutual benefit of all.

Become Involved

Membership in OTS is open to students in good standing in the College of Veterinary Medicine, in addition to honorary members selected annually by the chapter. General meetings are held at the OTS house at 7:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month during the academic year. In addition to general meetings, other chapter events include Welcome Back parties at the start of each quarter, dog washes, charity fundraisers, the White Carnation formal, and the Hog Roast every spring!

The Gamma chapter welcomes all prospective members and wishes you well in your veterinary studies!
