 Background and Mission

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the crucial challenges that public health is facing today. Veterinary medicine, food animal production and human medicine are the major components that are involved in the origin, development and maintenance of antimicrobial resistance. There is a lack of coherent scientific knowledge on the various factors that are involved in this challenge. Therefore, this workshop aims to educate the scientific community on the issue of antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance in veterinary medicine, human medicine, agricultural practices and the environment.

Specific Goals

  • To raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance in human and veterinary medicine
  • To disseminate scientific information that enables grasping the scientific basis of resistance
  • To discuss the various host, pathogen and environmental factors that play a role
  • Discuss the current trend and potential control measures
  • To consolidate ideas for development of Program on Antimicrobial Resistance as a component of the Infectious Disease Signature Program (IDSP) and Center for Microbial Interface Biology (CMIB)
