Research Interests

  • Genetic, proteomic, biochemical and biophysical experiments are being used to dissect how retroviruses affect the gene expression of their human or animal host. Our analysis of fundamental issues of retrovirus gene expression provides a window into how cells control their own gene expression. The outcome is new fundamental information on how cells fine-tune diverse biochemical reactions to sustain health or succumb to disease. Our insights are also useful for manipulating the malleable retrovirus genome to produce vectors to treat cancer and prevent pathogenic virus infection.
