
Spun and Unspun Urine with Hematuria
Although this picture shows macroscopic hematuria, it is clear that centrifuging the urine sample will identify hematuria. If the red color doesn't go away after centrifugation, you must use chemical tests (e.g. ammonium sulfate precipitation) or electrophoresis to differentiate hemoglobinuria from myoglobinuria. These disorders would have a different list of differential diagnoses.
